recasting-star-wars-nfl-playoffs

Two of the biggest stories over the past month have been the NFL playoffs and Star Wars. We’re in the thick of the playoff race right now, and if you haven’t see Star Wars yet, well, it might be time to question your life decisions.

We’re down to the final eight teams in the NFL playoffs, and the rosters showcase the most elite players. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has basically become the ‘85 Bears of movies. It’s straight-up dominating everything. Since I enjoy nothing more than combining two things that have no business being combined, here’s who I would recast in the original Star Wars trilogy using only players from teams still in the NFL playoffs.

Light Side:

cam-newton-lando

Luke Skywalker – Eric Berry
Probably not everyone’s first choice, but he came back from cancer. It doesn’t get much more heroic than that.

Obi Wan Kenobi – Peyton Manning
Old, kind of boring, a little bit crazy, and full of wisdom. Yep, that works.

Han Solo – Aaron Rodgers
Nobody does arrogant-but-backs-it-up better than A-A-Ron. Plus, I bet he looks great in a black vest!

Princess Leia – Erin Andrews
Because she is my favorite sideline reporter, and Pacman Jones has been eliminated.

Lando Calrissian – Cam Newton
No, I’m not being racist here. Cam is actually the Lando of the NFL. He’s charming and cocky with a heart of gold. Plus, at 6’5”, he basically lives in the clouds.

Chewbacca – Gronk
Everybody loves Chewie. Everybody loves Gronk. Neither one can really speak.

Yoda – Russell Wilson
He might not be old, but he’s so in tune with his feelings.

Dark Side:

eddie-lacy-jaba

The Emperor – Bill Belichick
Need I explain?

Darth Vader – Tom Brady
Executes the Emperor’s dirty work but kind of has a conscience.

Jabba the Hutt – Eddie Lacy
This was a toss-up between Roethlisberger and Lacy, but I ultimately chose Eddie due to overall body mass.

Boba Fett – Kam Chancellor
Kam’s a scary man. If you try to run away, he’ll find you.

Stormtroopers (all of them) – Richard Sherman
He takes shots at everyone.

That’s my Star Wars cast made solely of players from the final eight playoff rosters. I would’ve included characters from the new movie, but I wanted to avoid spoilers for the three people who haven’t seen it yet.

Go see Star Wars, and may the force be with your team weekend. Unless your team is Denver, that is. Yes, I’m a Steelers fan.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is unsure about his future with the team going as far to say that he doesn’t expect the Seahawks to bring him back for the 2018 season, according tothe Tacoma News Tribune.

“I probably won’t be back next year,” Bennett, 32, admitted.

“Just seems like it’s a young man’s game. I can see them going younger, with younger players,” Bennett added. “That’s part of the game.”

Along with Bennett, veterans such asRichard Sherman, punterJon Ryanand cornerbackJeremy Lane might not return to Seattle next season.

Additionally, the playing futures ofsafetyKam Chancellorand defensive endCliff Avril are in question due to neck injuries.

The Seattle Seahawks may be forced to completely overhaul their roster.

“With me, I’m fine. I mean, whatever happens, I’ve loved being a Seahawk. … You love the organization. You love the players that you played with. We’ve won a lot of games. So if I am not here I would never have any hard feelings toward the organization. I love Pete Carroll and [general manager] John Schneider, and we just move forward. It’s part of football,” Bennett told reporters.

“This is just part of sports. It just keep growing and you continuously play for another organization, if you have the opportunity.”

Bennett, who had 8.5 sacks this season, is due a $4M roster bonuson the fifth day of the 2018 league year, which begins on March 14 and is signed through 2020.

“People, a lot of fans don’t realize it when people have injuries and how they play through it,” Bennett said. “Most people tear their plantar fascia they don’t even do anything. I played through it the whole season. Swollen knee.

“You do what you can for your teammates. You do what you can. That’s just the sport.”
